Training a new puppy or stubborn older dog can be a daunting task, especially during the winter months when cold weather and snow might be a deterrent. If you need a little professional help, then you’re in luck because January is “Dog Training Month” and Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) is hosting a series of indoor Dog Training Classes.
Starting on Saturday, January 17th, ARF’s Dog Trainer Matthew Posnick will teach attendees basic obedience using positive reinforcement techniques. Topics covered will include Leash Handling, Let’s Go, Turning Techniques, Stay/Stand, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, Leave It, Come, No Jumping and Leash Pulling Prevention Exercises. A beginner class will take place on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m., followed by an intermediate class at 10 a.m. Admission is $125 for four classes.
ARF is also offering an indoor puppy kindergarten, which begins on Saturday, January 17th. During the class, pet owners will learn how to train their puppy. Classes will be held Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is $100 for four sessions.
All sessions will take place at Wainscott Farms, and attendees are asked to park at the ARF Adoption Center (90 Daniels Hole Road, Wainscott) and walk across the street or park on the shoulder of the road.
Wainscott Farms is located at Daniels Hole Road in Wainscott. For more information about the courses, call 631-537-0400 x202 or visit www.arfhamptons.org.
