“This powerful event provides a platform to speak out against domestic violence,” noted Maggie Goldfarb, Director of Development at The Retreat. “We are thankful for the incredible support of our East End communities!”
On Friday, February 13th at 5 p.m., the Neo-Political Cowgirls are joining forces yet again with The Retreat, an East Hampton based not-for-profit domestic violence services agency, and Dodds & Eder to hold a Hamptons gathering of the global movement, “V-Day One Billion Rising.” Launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, the movement began as a call to action according to One Billion Rising based on the astonishing statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at approximately 7 billion, that equates to over one billion girls and women. Last year’s events focused on the issue of justice for all survivors of gender violence, and also highlighted the inequality of those that live at the intersection of poverty, war, racism, capitalism, the plunder of the environment, patriarchy, and imperialism. Gatherings were held in 200 counties and, this year, One Billion Rising is rising for Revolution once again.
The East End “V-Day One Billion Rising” at Dodds & Eder will feature a thought-provoking, improvisational performance, where attendees can stand alongside worldwide participants as they walk, dance, rise up, and demand an end to violence during the largest mass action to stop violence against women in history. “The Retreat is proud to partner with the Neo-Political Cowgirls once again this year as part of the global call-to-action that is One Billion Rising,” said Goldfarb.
Dodds & Eder is located at 11 Bridge Street in Sag Harbor. For more information about the event, call 631-748-8307 or visit www.theretreatinc.org.
