Born in Baltimore, Maryland and trained at Berklee College of Music, Chestnut has built one of the most distinguished careers in contemporary jazz. His playing draws on swing, blues, gospel, and bebop, combining technical mastery with genuine emotional depth.
Over the course of his career he has performed and recorded with artists including Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, and Terence Blanchard. Time Magazine called him ‘the best jazz pianist of his generation.’
