With the weekend forecast calling for a washout, why not get a little wet as you harvest a clam from East Hampton waters? If you unearth what you believe is an award worthy behemoth, join the East Hampton Trustees at the 25th annual Largest Clam Contest on Sunday, October 4th.
Starting at 12 p.m., meet at the American Legion Hall in Amagansett to show off your find and enjoy clam chowder, a raw bar, and light refreshments. Attendees can also enter the homemade clam chowder contest. Plaques and prizes will be presented to the adult and child who brings in the biggest clam from each harbor, the largest clam overall, and the winner of best clam chowder.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Marine Program educators and scientists will be onsite for a Back to the Bays Lecture about the past, present, and future of eelgrass, as well as other restoration projects in and around East Hampton waters.
The American Legion Hall is located at 15 Montauk Highway in East Hampton. For more information, call 631-267-8688 or visit www.ehtrustees.com.
