On October 9, 2021 at 8:00pm at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, Isaac Mizrahi will be appearing live along with his band of six jazz Musicians. Mr. Mizrahi shared his insights on renewing his show this year at bay Street and his perspective on other subjects with hamptons.com. In the interview he said, “I am enjoy performing because it is the greatest challenge, it is the thing I am the most afraid of, that is performing in front of people. Yet standing up in front of people and facing them is very, very rewarding too.”
Mr. Mizrahi will be accompanied by a band of six musicians led by Ben Waltzer. They will perform live on the Bay Street stage. The music will include a list of iconic songs that were all-time favorites from Billie Holliday, Barbara Streisand, Cole Porter, Madonna and a few surprises. The Bay Street stage is perhaps the best indoor place in all of the Hamptons to enjoy live music.
Mr. Mizrahi explained his “it” factor back to when he was eight years old. He explained, “I don’t necessarily call it my “it factor,” but I have always made a promise to myself that I was going to achieve my ambitions. When I was about 8 years old, I started doing female impersonations and I would just start doing them. I would be in the alleyway of my house in Brooklyn or the beach club in New Jersey or wherever it was. I would just do these impromptu performances where people would say, ‘oh gosh he does this incredible impersonation of Shirley Bassey and reluctantly I would do it. All of a sudden, eventually crowds would gather. It became this kind of thing where I was known to do this in my community and in my neighborhood. I also made these puppet shows in my garage and I would open the garage door when I was ready to have a show and people would show up to see these puppet shows. I guess I trace it all back to then.”
About the lost Covid year Mr. Mizrahi said, “It starts with the things you are most afraid of can be the thing you love the most. For me that’s travel. I don’t really love to travel that much I did it so much, almost too much. I got very tired of it. I never enjoyed flying for 16 hours and then land. But then it’s exciting and fun, but then again leaving is very scary. With Arnold we started going to Italy and France and I started to love traveling because it was such a challenge and such a pleasure. Therefore, during Covid the thing that I missed was being unable to just get on a plane and safely go somewhere.” However, the year of Covid also gave him lots of time to enjoy his Bridgehampton home and appreciate the beauty of the east end on a year round day to day basis.
About this year’s show Mr. Mizrahi said, “I’d like to add that there really is a profound subject matter in the show but there really isn’t, it’s just a lot of fun where I talk about everything. I talk about a big birthday coming up, a significant birthday (60) and every time it’s time for a big birthday of mine some calamity happens, I had to cancel my 40th birthday because of 9-11. This year, I am turning 60 and my husband is turn 50 so I decided this gig is how we are really going to celebrate. The show is also going to be like a big birthday party.”
