Westhampton’s own nationally-renowned sports radio and television host, Ann Liguori, hosted her 16th Annual Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic this past Monday, May 19th, 2014 at prestigious Friar’s Head in Baiting Hollow. The sun shone down on the beautiful greens as the participants teed off in support of the charities chosen by the Ann Liguori Foundation.
Sold out for weeks, the tournament benefited a variety of charities, which mainly focus on cancer research and prevention. They included the American Cancer Society, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, St. Jude’s Hospital and nutritional programs to educate young people about the importance of overall good health.
“WOW! sums up our charity tourney this year! Friar’s Head offered such a spectacular setting and delivered first class on everything — golf course, views, service, support, food and wine,” commented Ann Liguori. “Thanks to all who made the 16th Annual Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic a huge success! It’s truly a pleasure to host and organize this fundraiser every year with such an excellent committee, sponsors, volunteers and participants. Monies raised will continue to support a variety of not-for-profit organizations including American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Hospital, Southampton Hospital, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, camps that teach nutrition for young people, to name a few. Let’s all continue to work together to fight cancer and help others!”
Sponsors for this year’s tournament included ABM Industries, Platinum Maintenance, Maui Jim, Golf Buddy, Callaway Golf, The American Golfer, and North & West Coast Links. Prizes in the live and silent auction included a donated trip from North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland for two to play the spectacular links of Ireland, and opportunities to play some of the top courses on the East End. Attendees included New York Yankee Gene Michael, actor Kevin Sorbo, and Four-Time Stanley Cup Winner Butch Goring.
The Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic has been played on the East End since 1998 on many reputable courses, however this was the first time it was played on Friar’s Head, an architectural masterpiece designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. It is due to that incredible team that Friar’s Head has risen so high in the ranking of the world’s best golf courses. Friar’s Head is known as a challenging and seamless course, but it is made infinitely better by the gorgeous views of The Long Island Sound juxtapose long green fairways.
