Having a local cinema is a luxury. More than just a movie theater, the Sag Harbor Cinema is an active and energized part of life in the Village. Centerstage on Main Street, magnificent maroon hues emanate from the Cinema’s beautiful art deco sign, an homage to the magic of movie nights. Inside, the recently renovated venue is a beacon of entertainment and exploration that bustles with spirited conversation year-round.
Last Saturday’s 2022 Sag Harbor Cinema Soiree exemplified the unmatched cinematic, cultural, and community programming the theater brings to Sag Harbor. The premium event hosted a cocktail party, dinner, dancing, and an exclusive auction. While moving through cinematic history, the event raised funds for a fantastic local cause.
The elevated evening began with a sparkling wine welcome and a red-carpet photo experience. After showing appreciation for fine fashion and film, attendees made their way to the exclusive Green Room on the top floor for live music, special cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres, movie trivia with prizes, and other surprises!
After the cocktail party, for those with full tickets to the soiree, the Cinema hosted a sit-down dinner and an auction. Auction items included: “An Evening with Billy Joel”, a “Holiday at San Miguel de Allende”, and a “Celebrity Golf Outing with former NBA basketball star, J.J. Redick,” among others.
The Cinema engages viewers with year-round dialogue, discovery, and appreciation of the moving image–from blockbusters to student shorts and everything in between, including hosting the upcoming Hamptons International Film Festival.
Without help, the cinema would not be what it is today. Since its 2016 renovation, with the support of unprecedented community efforts, The Sag Harbor Cinema has become a state-of-the-art theater with unique history and character. As a community-based not-for-profit organization, the Cinema is fueled by the support of its generous donors and local cinema lovers.
